Odoo does not plan well in advance, but releases a new version iteratively about every 3 months. Here you can find out what is already planned for Odoo 18. But on May 24, 2024, Odoo gave a preview of the revolutionary update version V18 at its roadmap event in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. The aim was to provide a comprehensive insight into the latest changes and enhancements in Odoo 18. odoo offered deep insights into the new features, functions and improvements and showed how companies can exploit the full potential of this powerful software. But there is a wealth of innovations that are still being kept under wraps, awaiting the unveiling of odoo 18 at the highly anticipated odoo Experience in October 2024.


Grouping by fields.

It is now possible to group, aggregate and sort by an unsaved reference field.


New settings for product types.

The latest update for Odoo 18 clarifies the terminology around consumables and product types to avoid confusion. The 'Consumables' product type has been renamed to 'Goods' and the 'Track stock' property has been moved to a separate field specifically for goods. Here you can set whether the stock is managed per piece, per lot or per (unique) serial number.


Adding products via the catalog.

What was already possible for purchase orders and orders, namely adding products via the catalog, can now also be added to supplier and customer invoices via the product catalog.


Complete overview of all activities.

A new overview menu and activity views have been added to see all activities (your own or others) at a glance, regardless of purpose, which can be useful as a to-do list. A shortcut in the “Activities” drop-down menu allows all activities to be displayed in a list, where clicking on a row opens the corresponding record, allowing you to quickly mark activities as done or cancel them, with the option of bulk editing, such as reassigning tasks.


Validation of draft documents.

For those who want to see the number of documents in the draft stage, odoo 18 can display the number of documents in the draft stage, which facilitates timely validation and streamlines document management processes.


Quality control on request.

odoo now supports on-demand quality checks for inventory and production processes. This new feature allows users to set quality points on demand for any action in a stock movement (picking) or production order. Clicking on a specific action in these forms opens a wizard where the user can specify the product, the quality point and, if applicable, the batch or serial number.

Change layout.

You can now format tables automatically, making it easier to sort, style and filter data. New data is automatically inserted into the table, so you no longer need to manually apply styles to new rows or columns.


Create a pivot table from a spreadsheet.

odoo introduces a new function: the pivot table for spreadsheets. This pivot table is based directly on data from the spreadsheet itself. The user selects a range of cells to create the pivot table, with the first row defining the fields and the subsequent rows serving as data. The data type is automatically recognized and can consist of dates, boolean values, numbers or characters. Users can use these fields as dimensions or measures in the pivot table and apply various aggregation functions such as sum, average or count to improve data analysis.


Online appointments.

First you select the time and then the available person/resource. A third option has been added. Previously, you could automatically assign people to a meeting request or first select a person and then a time. In odoo 18, the process is now complete so that you can first select a time and then the available person.


Spreadsheets and dashboards.

POS Restaurant - orders without a table.

With the latest update of the odoo restaurant checkout module, it is now possible to create “floating” orders that are not tied to a specific table. This is particularly useful for orders such as delivery and takeaway. By default, a “shadow table” is created on each floor of the restaurant to which these floating orders are linked without having to change the entire code base.

 

Drag and drop a restaurant layout.

odoo V18 has a new feature that allows you to drag and drop tables directly onto the floor screen in edit mode. A grid has been added for the floor in edit mode, which makes aligning tables and organizing the floor plan easier and more user-friendly. The redesigned odoo 18 for automated batches combines waves and batches for improved workflow, flexibility, scalability and resource optimization.


Vehicle and batch.

The "Assign vehicle to a batch" function allows a specific vehicle to be assigned to a batch of orders. This allows the logistics team to ensure that the selected vehicle is used to deliver all orders in the batch, thereby optimizing the delivery process and vehicle utilization.


Card and charge.

In odoo 18's inventory module, the batch map view provides a visual representation of the location and addresses for the deliveries, allowing you to plan the routes intelligently, saving time and helping to reduce fuel consumption.


Redesigned barcode application.

The barcode app in Odoo 18 E-Commerce has been redesigned for better usability. It allows access to all the necessary information in one place, thereby helping to increase productivity. There is greater control with features such as hiding reserved items and improved scanning capabilities. The barcode app can be installed as a PWA on mobile devices. New features are:

The package contents report now includes a QR code with a serial number in it. With the odoo 18 inventory module you can now scan QR codes with mass data.

Products under warranty can be marked for better tracking.


New inventory dashboard - push and pull rules.

Push and pull rules are now activated when a transfer is validated. Since the movements are not created in advance, more flexibility is possible. Movements waiting for a new transmission no longer clog up the space. All default multi-stage routes have been redesigned to support this change.


Create backorders in advance.

You can now create a backorder before marking the delivery as complete. This gives you the flexibility to deliver from different locations or on different delivery dates.


Batch/serial numbers across multiple companies.

Batch and serial numbers remain fully traceable across multiple companies. When switching between companies, the serial and batch numbers are retained, ensuring complete traceability.


Automated batches.

Improved automated batches planned in odoo V18 will combine waves and batches, streamlining inventory management. Additionally, the new barcode application will simplify product management, improving operational accuracy and efficiency. The barcode application will also improve batch tracking, inventory valuation, series management, push rules and manufacturing workflow functions. Using inventory management software reduces inventory management costs while improving inventory accuracy.


New storage strategies.

odoo 18 has introduced new storage strategies to improve inventory management. The update includes a new Sublocation column that allows the user to specify whether and how to select a sublocation. The options are: no sublocation (default), last used (the last location used for this product), and nearest location (used with storage categories and requires a storage category to be specified). Additionally, the system now supports putaway rules without the need to specify a product, product category or packaging, simplifying the setup process.


Scanner sound when scanning is successful.

When a barcode was successfully scanned, the screen flashed to indicate successful scanning, but there was no sound. The lack of audible feedback sometimes made it difficult for users to be sure that the scanning process was successful. odoo 18 has been expanded to include a new type of sales contract that is specifically designed for the easy creation of fixed quantity quotation requests. Just like with the offer and order template, you can now also use a template for offer requests in Odoo.


Generation of batch or serial numbers upon receipt of goods.

Automatically create batch numbers when products arrive that require tracking. This ensures structured recording and tracking from the moment it is received.


Save time in procurement processes with odoo 18.

When a request for quotation (RFQ) or purchase order (PO) is sent to a supplier, the supplier must create the quotation/order (SO) in its own ERP system. If they then return this quote/order, you will need to update your query/order with the prices. This process is time-consuming, adds no value, and can lead to many data entry errors. In Odoo 18, if both the customer and the supplier use Odoo, they do not need to make these updates. The customer can send an order to the supplier either as a PDF with an embedded UBL BIS 3 XML file, or the supplier can download the XML file directly via a URL.

Allocated hours are now automatically set to tasks based on their scheduled dates.


Restore automatic scheduling.

Users can now undo their action if they accidentally click the Auto Schedule button and restore Auto Scheduling.


Improved time in Gantt view.

The progress bar in the Gantt view now shows the time allocated to tasks instead of the duration between scheduled appointments. This means that multiple tasks can be scheduled at the same time without causing a conflict. You can now scroll horizontally, zoom in and out, and even view one task per line.

The new invoicing for companies planned in Odoo 18 will simplify integration and offer expanded functionality. The improved user interface for bank synchronization and credit card management will streamline financial management and reduce errors. Payments.

Compliance.

odoo 18 offers accounting compliance for a whopping 120 countries - in the broadest sense, all companies' obligations with regard to accounting and reporting. Receive PEPPOL documents in the Documents app.

If you use multiple purchasing journals or have configured special processes in the document app for processing incoming supplier invoices, odoo 18 offers the option of receiving PEPPOL documents directly in the document app for processing. In addition, specific tags can be assigned to the document.


Manage budgets on analytical accounts.

Human resources management.

Human resources management is being overhauled with features such as attendance management, recruiting, reviews and reference management. These tools enable more efficient employee management and better team coordination.


Attendance and absence management.

Attendance and absence management in Odoo 18 offers many innovations such as: overtime reports, fingerprint management, removing active input fields from absences and assignments, displaying outstanding assignment requests and working times in the calendar, direct approvals from the dashboard and the option to include holidays. or exclude as well as showing or hiding vacation types in the dashboard.


Post jobs on the website.

odoo V18 will provide the ability to post jobs on the website in the recruitment module. The new function allows incoming emails from job boards.
